Shadow Hawk
George Bush, 41st President of the United States, officially opened the course at Shadow Hawk Golf Club in 1999. It is a Rees Jones design, with fairways set around Pecan trees and a number of lakes, it is situated on a sprawling 240-acre estate close to Richmond.
This edited excerpt was derived directly from the book by Daniel Wexler The American Private Golf Club Guide:
"Sharing an estate with the neighbouring Houstonian Hotel & Country Club (now Black Hawk Country Club], Shadow Creek is a normally challenging Rees Jones test whose calling cards are the first and 18th holes. the former is a 560-yarder that is doglegs around two ponds. The latter is one is a 540-yarder which can be played with a breathtaking traverse across a vast lake.
In the middle, things are quite like the Houstonian Black Hawk especially in the quantity of water on the course and the bunkering that is oversized but in this case some holes actually provide fairway hazards that are placed in strategically significant locations."
