A 2009 Graham Cooke and Wayne Carleton creation, the golf course at Shadow Mountain is set to the north of Cranbrook city. Each hole has its own nickname; "007", “Desert Dunes" and even “Links" for example, but the signature hole on this mountain course is the par five 17th "The Monster" featuring a high tee and a ribbon-like fairway resting some 100 feet below.

Shadow Mountain

It is located near the edgy water of the St. Mary River in the middle of the Kootenay Rockies, Shadow Mountain Golf Course is an original Graham Cooke design that first was opened to play in 2009. Its length is 7,405 feet from back markers the layout is played with a par of 72. Water features in a variety of places especially at the 3rd hole, 8th 15th, 17th and 3rd.

Highlight holes must be comprised of the four gorgeous water-filled holes. The par four short hole ("Hideaway") is the first of a number of large waste bunkers on the course. the hole of par three ("Oasis") runs over a small pond, leading to the green, which is set within the natural bowl.

In the inner half the doglegging right 15th ("The Drive") begins on an elevated tee situated just above the fairway for forty metres and is later followed a few holes later by a second downhill slam on 17th ("The Monster") that requires an accurate approach shot to an edging green that is tucked away in the trees.
