First opened for play in 1991, the course at Shaker Hills Golf & Country Club changed hands in 2012 and the new owner’s first move was to construct a new 18th hole, bringing the home green closer to the clubhouse.
When Fred Curtis Jr. purchased the 250-acre foreclosed Shaker Hills property, he realized the 18th hole should finish right beside the clubhouse so he repositioned the driving range and cart charging area allowing him to convert the old par four 444-yard closing hole into a new, right doglegging par five finisher.
Curtis then renovated the clubhouse the following year, creating a new top deck with views across the opening and closing holes on both nines. Since then, ongoing improvements include a new driving range and practice area, a new putting green, thirty additional bunkers and ten tees. Five fairways have also been extended and a number of irrigation upgrades have taken place.
