I have played here a few times recently and the course is always in good condition and provides an excellent golfing experience. Recent attempts to open the course up by removing a large amount of trees from around the course has taken away some of the charm and picturesque look of the place but in terms of overall quality Sandown is still the premier course on the Isle of Wight. The nearby airfield brings a charm rather than a distraction as every time you play there you will experience a light aircraft or two passing less than 50ft above your head on it's decent. This really isn't a negative aspect, i'm not talking Gatwick Airport here & it really can be a fascinating experience especially from the 13th tee which is elevated offering a view of the runway. 3 or 4 holes have elevated tee's and a couple of par 3's on the front 9 require you to play up to a raised green. Golf here is interesting, quirky and great fun. I would recommend this course to any golf enthusiast who finds themselves on the gorgeous Isle of Wight.
