Sherborne is very much parkland in lovely quiet countryside with many surrounding trees and good views, with 11 holes one side of the road and the 7 finishing holes on the clubhouse side. The start is fairly straightforward with a bland downhill par 4 followed by three short par 4's including a couple of newer holes. The 5th is stroke index 1 and is a strong/difficult par 4, but apart from this until you reach the 8th the course offers you a chance to make score. After that holes 8 to 17 offer a good variety of interesting holes with plenty of elevation change; the par 3's at 9 and 15 are good interesting holes with plenty of trouble to carry, whilst I thought the par 4's at 10, 13, 14 and 16 offered interesting tee shots. Unfortunately the course ends with a poor uphill par 4 which would not grace any course.
Despite recent rain Sherborne was in good condition with the greens true and of excellent pace (a pleasure to put on). I would say comparable to nearby Yeovil, possibly slightly more enjoyable because of the setting and course condition, and I would be happy to return.
