Shirley
Established in 1955 in 1955 by members from the Jewish community who had grown tired of the discrimination that was prevalent in other golf courses around the area, Shirley Golf Club was established to serve as an "welcome to everyone" establishment. Its 18-hole course is located upon the former site of a horse-racing track located outside of Birmingham and is conveniently located near exit 4 on the M42 motorway.
It extends to 6,486 yards starting at the rear tees, and playing up to a 72-yard par (37 out, 35 in) The course is laid out in two nines that return with water hazards appearing in close proximity to greens on the initial seven holes. The inside portion is 260 yards less in comparison to the nine on its front because there's only one hole that is a par five (at the 16th hole, which is 480 yards long) in that length of hole.
Highlights of this card include the doglegging par 5th (rated stroke index 1.) and the uphill 202-yard eighth (the largest par 3 of the deck) and the difficult hole of par 4 11th (with the tee set behind the green at 10th and out of bounds just in front of fairway) as well as the 18th that doglegs right, and has an offset green, with bunkers in left and right of the green's putting green.
