Established in 1966, the course at Golfclub Siegen-Olpe comprises a delightful mix: some holes feature typical, open parkland fairways while others are cut through dense woodland areas. Combined, they serve up an entertaining 18-hole round of exceptional variety. Bernhard von Limburger laid out the club’s original 9-hole short course which was extended in the late 1970s then expanded to an 18-hole layout a decade later.
Today, the course measures 5,937 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72 (38 then 34), with holes arranged as two non-returning nines. There’s only one par three (at the 179-metre 3rd) and three par fives on the outward half, then just one par five (at the 494-metre 13th) and three par threes on the inward half.
Water comes into play at several holes in the form of ditches crossing fairways and there are little lakes requiring particular attention at the following places: left of the fairway on the right doglegging par five 5th; in front of the green at the par three 15th; and to the right of the fairway at the par four 16th.
Other holes of note include the left doglegging par five 2nd (where a large tree sits to the front left of the green); the right doglegging downhill par four 9th (with a hedge behind the green to catch over hit approach shots); and the par three 18th which plays to a putting surface that’s defended by bunkers to the front right and back left of the home green.
