Siglufjördur Golf Club reached its half-century in 2020 and “Sigló” celebrated in 2019 when architect Edwin Roald completed the renovation of its 9-hole par 36 layout, which measures 2,600 metres. Roald said: “It’s short and sweet with unparalleled sights and sounds.”

Operated by the Sigló Hotel in Siglufjörður, the 9-hole course at Siglufjörður Golf Club opened for play in 2019, ten years after the club approached architect Edwin Roald about improving the original layout. Local businessman Róbert Gudfinnsson got involved through his tourism and leisure development company Raudka and construction began in the summer of 2012.
Located partially in a gravel quarry at the intersection of the Hólsá and Leyningsá rivers, the course extends to exactly 2,600 metres from the back tees, configured with three par threes, three par fours and three par fives.
Edwin Roald shared his thoughts on the course with the following quote:
“The elements I expect will stand out are holes 5 through 8. These include two consecutive short par threes at holes 6 and 7. The 6th asks for a delicate pitch into a narrow clearing in a mature pine plantation. You then arrive at the 7th after a walk along the plantation and crashing rapids of one of the two rivers. You are then offered a sub-100-yard shot downhill to a large island green with Sigló’s most iconic mountain, Hólshyrna, as a backdrop.”
