Silo Ridge

The 18-hole layout at Silo Ridge Field Club started out in 1992 as the private Segalla Country Club. Designed by Connecticut architect Al Zikorus, the course then changed hands a number of times after it became a public golf facility named Island Green.

Unfortunately, the golf club ran into financial difficulties early in the new millennium – at a time when the Ernie Els design company was involved in looking at a renovation scheme for the golf course – and it eventually stopped operating in 2011.

A deal was eventually done with Discovery Land Company to reintroduce the course as the centrepiece of an upmarket luxury residential development within a gated community where residents have a variety of outdoor sporting activities on offer to them.

The Arizona-based new owner, with twenty such high-end properties in its portfolio, called in the preferred architect, Tom Fazio, to refashion the fairways before reopening the layout in 2016. The front nine remains largely intact but the closing nine has been greatly improved.

Laughing Waters, a water feature design and construction company, was brought in to build a creek that would wrap around the home green on the 18th hole, with a waterfall positioned next to the putting surface. Thousands of tonnes of rocks and boulders from the surrounding area were used in the project, with the work completed in just three weeks.
