The origins of the Singapore Island Country Club can be traced back to 1891 when the first members laid out a basic 9-hole circuit at a local racetrack. Shortly after, the club moved to Bukit Timah and, in 1920, the main Bukit course was brought into play.

In 1930, 12 holes were fashioned to the east of the property and these would soon become the front nine of the Sime course. The back nine were added in 1938 - the year the club adopted its Royal title – to complete an 18-hole layout named in honour of John Sime, club President in 1923.

After merging with the Royal Island club in 1963, the new golfing “superclub” soon had at its disposal four 18-hole courses (Bukit, Sime, Island and New) located on two separate sites.

The Sime offers similar scenic views to the Bukit course and indeed, the fairways on the back nine of the Sime – some of which feature uphill blind drives and pronounced doglegs – are routed in between several of the holes on the Bukit layout.
