If you look through the beauty of the setting at the Skibo course itself, it's rather average. When I played here, the gorse was largely gone and the layout bland and featureless with no definition to the fairways which blended into the rough. That said there is some great bunkering to enjoy. Some holes seemed to go up and down in a monotonous way and I could only describe the condition (especially around the tee boxes) as scruffy and unloved. To make Skibo a great course it needs a great architect to do something magical and it’s in desperate need of TLC. Skibo was not a classic when I visited. And ouch, yes it is expensive.
