Skyhill Jeju (Hill & Forest)
The 36-hole facility at Skyhill Jeju Country Club belongs to Lotte, one of the biggest conglomerate companies in Korea, with the golf complex first opening for business in 2005. There are four nines in operation here: the Ocean and Sky circuits comprise the main 18-hole course, with the Hill and Forest loops forming a more than adequate companion course.
One of several South Korean projects designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr since the late 1990s, the two courses were laid out, in the words of the architect, to “blend with the landscape and provide limitless strategic choices. Individual holes feature ancient rock formations and historic stone walls lining dry streambeds.”
Skyhill is set at an elevation of around 1,000 feet and the abundant trees often serve as welcome protection from the strong and notorious Jeju winds. However, there’s precious little shelter on the Hill course’s 7th green which is perched at the highest point on the property at nearly 1,500 feet above sea level.
Quite a number of prestigious competitions have been held at Skyhill Jeju Country Club – including the Herald KYT Tour Championship, ADT CAPS Championship, Lotte Mart Women’s Open and Lotte Cantata Women’s Open – so it’s a well-respected tournament venue on the Korean professional golf circuit.
