Spyglass Hill is possibly the hardest golf course on the Monterey Peninsula. The hilly land tumbles down towards the sea, leaving fairways lined with cypress and pines, laced with areas of brilliant white sand.

Muni guy checking in. Though I'm not necessarily well off, I am fortunate enough to live in a great area for golf and can find a good deal. Full disclosure, I'm a muni guy first and foremost and a legit 21 handicap for what it's worth. My wife got me a membership for Dukes Club (if you're fairly local, i.e. Bay area resident, this is a no-brainer if you want to play this course). When I spoke to the rep about a deal they had going for December and January, I had to jump on it.
I just played Spyglass the other day and I can honestly say it's the best course I've ever played. Everyone from the check-in team, the cart girl, and the on-course staff were all first class. The amenities were old school and smaller as expected (was indicated in the comments below, but that was fine by me). Though it was the best course I've ever played, it wasn't perfect (I'm just nitpicking at this point). Certain areas were corded off due to the upcoming Pro-Am, but that was it. The greens ran true and you can't beat the weather we had. Now on to the round, it was hard. Mainly because I'm not any good, but it's a longer course than I am accustomed to playing, but the golf gods did us a solid and gave us great weather. Maybe it was because of the environment, but it was the best I've hit the ball in a while. I was on pace to hit a legit 90, but Spyglass said otherwise lol. The greens were fast, but certain parts were a touch muddy. The rough was just that, I think it's getting grown due to the pro-am, but it was definitely hard to hit out of. If you're a muni guy like myself, this place will blow you away. However, if you're fortunate to travel and play around the world, I can see why some people said what they said in the comments below.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
