Situated a mere thirty minute drive north of downtown Toronto, the St Andrew’s East Golf & Country Club property was acquired from farmer James Ray by Bill MacWilliams and David Paterson in 1986. Within three years, all eighteen holes had been set out by architect Rene Muylaert and the clubhouse was in full operation.
Sometime later, three new holes were created when an additional thirty five acres were purchased to the north of the original course, adding over 300 yards to the overall length of the layout. In 2006, Doug Carrick’s design team were called in to begin a renovation that would take the best part of a decade to upgrade all eighteen holes.
The course is unusually configured with three par threes, three par fours and three par fives on each nine, with holes 9 and 10 (both par fives) being the only two consecutive holes that play to the same par. Highlights here include the 528-yard 9th (“Signature”), which doglegs left across two ponds to the green and the 189-yard 16th (“Oasis”), where the circular putting surface is almost completely surrounded by sand.
