Stanmore gets overlooked for all the wrong reasons.

It is said that a good definition of long-term planning could be had be looking at the 18th century English gentry and aristocracy as they rebuilt their country estates - because Capability Brown, Humphrey Repton and their paymasters planted signature trees and avenues in the 1750s so that they would look great in the 1820s.

Stanmore has a delightfully well-kept and hilly golf course that manages to seem away from it all despite being surrounded by houses, and being located in a very congested part of north Middlesex near to London.

Played in a seniors open yesterday and the course was in excellent fettle, especially the greens.

quality local course to me, great holes and well worth checking out if you are in the area.

I played Stanmore this morning in glorious weather.

Stanmore is a course that places a premium on strategy rather than how long one hits the ball.

I normally play Stanmore once a year, and always enjoy it: it is well looked after, the greens usually run nice and true, and are generally receptive.

The golfing county of Middlesex is not blessed with many standout courses but Stanmore is well worth a visit – it is good and very good in places and the current position of #9 is a little low.
