Starnberg

The Kurt Rossnecht-designed course at Golfclub Starnberg opened in 1988, two years after the club was formed. Starting and finishing with eminently birdieable par five holes, this layout gives golfers the chance to begin and end their round in some style.

Measuring 6,272 metres from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 72, with holes arranged as two returning nines. Water hazards feature in the form of ponds at the following locations: to the left of the green at both the par three 3rd (“Buchetweg”) and the par four 10th (“Weiherholz”); to the right of the putting surface at the par three 15th (“Faickertweiher”); and in front of the home green on the par five 18th (”Dorfblick”).

Other notable holes include the left doglegging par four 2nd (“Feldl”), with a ditch crossing the fairway close to the green, and the par three 9th (“Obstler”) which has three large bunkers surrounding the green. On the inward half, the short par four 11th (“Stadelwiese”) presents a good birdie opportunity, as does the final par three on the card at the 203-metre 17th (“Alte Eiche”).

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
