Stratford-on-Avon

It was founded by the community in Wilcote in 1894, the Stratford-on Avon Golf Club began with nine holes at The Welcome Fields before moving a short distance to its present site in 1925. J.H. Taylor created the course. James Carter & Co. of Reading designed the holes together with Abe Mitchell and seven other professional athletes playing a number of tournament matches to celebrate the official opening a year later.

The course is now extended up to 6,261 yards starting from the back tees of the 125-acre estate and plays to 72 holes (35 out, 37 in) and the holes are set up in two 9-hole loops that return. The hazards of water come into play at times as small ponds are located near the greens on the 5th hole, a par 4,, and 12th, a par five.

Highlight holes include the challenging 4-hole par 4 (rated as stroke index 1.) with an out of bounds on the right side of the fairway. Then there's the 7th hole that is left-veering, which can be the sole par 5 hole on this front 9. In the back half the hole that is the longest on the card, 150 yards plays to a pear-shaped fairway that's secured by three bunkers on the left, front and right of the green's putting surface.

Jonathan Gaunt embarked on a bunker restoration project at the club in winter of 2020. contractor MJ Abbot completing the works on the holes 11 13 and 16.
