Sunningdale Golf Club (New)

In the early 1920s, with a country recovering from the horrors of WW1 and the increased popularity of the motor car bringing in golfers from further afield, the Committee at Sunningdale found themselves increasingly concerned at the amount of golf being played on the Old course.

The New Course at Sunningdale is simply brilliant in its own quiet way.

The new course at Sunningdale was designed by renowned architect Harry Colt and opened for play in 1923.

In "Kill Bill Volume 2" Michael Madsen's character says you shouldn't compare Hattori Hanzo swords to each other but to any other sword not made by Hattori Hanzo-I think that this logic applies to Harry S.

The younger brother to its lauded neighbour, the new course at Sunningdale Golf Club divides opinion on which is the better of the two.

I was almost set for an anti climax as we had played the Old course in the morning and after a delightful lunch we returned refreshed to do battle with the New in the afternoon, and while the Old starts with a bang the New starts with a whimper with a couple of weaker holes on the property to start.

Playing the old course in the morning was always going to mean I had to lower my expectations for the afternoon on the New.

Sunningdale New is a wonderful course with many changes in recent years, primarily tree removal.

We’ve all seen the image of that clubhouse behind the 18th of the Old course and thought ‘corrr’…I’m not exaggerating, it is the best clubhouse experience I’ve had so far!
