The Old course at Sunningdale is one of the British Isles’ most aesthetically pleasing inland courses. Arguably, it was the first truly great golf course to be built on the magical Surrey/Berkshire sand-belt.

A fantastic example of a classic heathland golf course with wonderful variation in holes both length and challenge, sublime architecture, strategic challenge and outstanding conditioning, what's not to like. Generous width fairways lined with heather mean that if you keep it reasonably straight you will score well but go offline and it will definitely challenge your recovery powers.
The course has fantastic balance with three par 4’s under 300 yards as well as two reachable par 5’s where birdies are on offer balanced by two par 4’s over 460 yards and a further five over 400 where par is an accomplishment, with four par 3’s ranging from 146 to 222 yards.
The 7th is perhaps the perfect example of why blind tee shot should be part of architectural design as traversing the summit of the hill reveals an exceptional hole of true quality that is all the better disguised from the tee.
To pick out one hole as a signature hole is churlish when you are presented with 18 superbly crafted tests but the last 3 create a crescendo with three outstanding par 4’s with signature bunkering and real strategic challenge to finish the round in style.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
