The Old course at Sunningdale is one of the British Isles’ most aesthetically pleasing inland courses. Arguably, it was the first truly great golf course to be built on the magical Surrey/Berkshire sand-belt.

I confess that this is my favourite course that I have played, so its elevated status as a maximum of 6 does indeed carry some bias.
But another round there this week did nothing but convince me this is at the ultimate level of golf course architecture and as close to perfect as I have seen .
It climbs in my architectural status each time I see it , the simple brilliance of the place just blows me away.
The wonderfully subtle collection areas so intricate in their placement and design, the exquisite bunkering and heather laden collection areas…..one only hopes that any future work at the hands of Mr sands splash Hanse doesn’t alter the wonderful natural esthetic of the courses .
What do you do to improve on perfection?
The playing lanes are unaffected by the wonderful array of trees..and much removal would be IMO superfluous especially on this the Old course .
To single out any hole hole is perhaps unfair but my perfect hole exists here in #12.
Esthetically beautiful, challenging to play , but playable for all, levels of player
Just stunning fro tee to green
Lady Sunningdale you are my Queen
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
