Swaffham

Swaffham Golf Club was established in 1922, with Captain B.K. Wilson, the Royal North Devon secretary, setting out a 9-hole course for the new club. When more land became available to extend the course at the start of the new millennium, Steve Marnock and Jonathan Gaunt were called in to add another nine holes to the original layout.

Today, this tree-lined track occupies around 130 acres of gently undulating heathland terrain, with the course stretching to nearly 6,500 yards from the tips and playing to a par of 71 (35 out then 36 in). Holes are arranged as returning nines, with only one par five on the front nine (at the 551-yard 1st) and two on the back nine, at the 510-yard 13th and 477-yard 15th.

Highlights include the first of the par threes at the 199-yard 3rd (featuring an oval-shaped green);the slightly left veering 5th (rated stroke index 1); the left doglegging par four 11th (with out of bounds to the left of the fairway); and the long, very narrow 18th which is a tough hole to finish the round, playing to a tightly bunkered home green.
