Challenging inland links course. Played the course in November in the middle of a very wet spell and on the way seeing all the flooded fields around this very flat region just east of Eindhoven, we were fearing a very muddy day of heavily plugged golf balls. However, despite the amount of rain, the course drained very well. It seems to be built on well-draining sandy soil. The fairways were in good condition, were pretty firm and rolling well.
The clubhouse facilities are very good. It is very much a modern functional design with excellent facilities and a good restaurant. The driving range is on to a lake with floating golf ball.
The golf course is pretty long with 180m+ par 3's, par 4's over 400m and long 500m+ par 5's. That and add the good amount of water and a exposed position with little defence again the strong westerly winds make for a challenging days golf. The green complexes seem very well thought through. Many have raised green, with upturned saucer feel to them. Short approaches will roll back and too much aggression will see the ball speed through the back often into a hollow. Multi-levelled with considerable humps and borrows. The bunkering had a natural feel, enhancing the challenge of the hole, with good quality and depth of sand.
Amongst the standout holes, the 7th and 8th work their way around a lake. Seven is a long par 5 played all along with the edge of the lake on your right. Eight bends back around the lake and played a very long par 4 directly into the prevailing wind. Hole 11 is a very interesting par 4 with wild sandy area right in the middle of the fairway and the green on the far side. You can place around it either side. Take a bit of orientation to work through where best to go.
The closing stretch also worth a shout out. Hole 16 is a par 4 with a blind approach into a narrow funnel of trees. There is more space than you think once through the funnel as opens out around the green. That is followed by a long par 3 (190m) with a very tricky front sloping green running down to bunkers for anything short. Then the final hole is a tricky par 5 working around marshland on the left. The final green, right in front of the clubhouse, has water in front and to the left with a good level of risk reward options of attacking the green or playing safe to a gentler approach to the right.
Despite it being a very wind swept day with the odd rainy shower we really enjoyed the course. It played very well despite the conditions and we will be returning to play in better weather. Well recommended if you are in the area.
