Tandil

Established in 1934 by workers from the Southern Railway company, Tandil Golf Club moved to its current location in 1942, bringing a 9-hole track into play. This course was then extended to form the current 18-hole layout in 1987.

The eighteen holes occupy a very constricted tract extending to no more than 85 acres, with an overall length of 6,161 yards. Par is set at 70 (35 out then 35 in) and holes are arranged as two returning nines, laid out across a gently undulating landscape. There are three par threes on the outward half and only one par five on the inward half.

Highlight holes on the outward half include the long par four 3rd (rated stroke index 1) with out of bounds to the left of the fairway as it heads towards a two-tiered green; the slightly right doglegging par five 8th (with out of bounds on the right); and the uphill par three 9th which plays to a heavily sloping green with three large surrounding bunkers.

On the inward half, the par five 11th presents a good birdie opportunity, playing into the northern corner of the property, and the par three 16th (the shortest and last of the five par three holes on the scorecard) might also yield a birdie if the tee shot avoids a big bunker to the front right side of the green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
