Today, this 18-hole layout occupies a property of around 85 acres, extending to just over 6,100 yards from the back markers. Par for the course is set at 70 (34 out then 36 in) with holes arranged as two returning nines. Unusually, the round begins and ends with a par three.
Highlight holes include the longest par three on the card at the 225-yard 4th, along with the only par five on the shorter front nine at the 465-yard 6th, where the fairway veers 45 degrees left from tee to green.
The most notable hole on the inward half is the signature 478-yard 12th, played from a raised tee (offering incredible views across miles of Wealden countryside) to a green that’s protected by a cross ditch and some encroaching trees.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
