Architect Randy Hackenkemper (who worked for a time alongside Nicklaus Design then in partnership with Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish before setting out on his own in 1985) fashioned the 18-hole layout at Territory Golf & Country Club, on the outskirts of Duncan in Stephens County, with the course opening to members and their guests in 2003.

Bermuda fairways are set out within an expansive 640-acre residential property that features rocky outcrops, numerous ponds and the wandering waters of Stagestand Creek. The course is part of a master planned community but the housing elements built so far have had a minimal effect on the aesthetics of the surrounding landscape.

The par fives at Territory are all very strong holes, the 565-yard 2nd plays to a heavily sand and water-protected green, the 512-yard 7th leads to a raised putting surface that sits precariously on top of a ridge, and the 535-yard 15th features a green that’s guarded by a creek to the front of the putting surface.

There’s also an impressive 11-acre practice facility with three par three holes, each with multiple tee boxes and maintained to the same standard as the main course, a 15,000 square foot putting green, a driving range with bi-directional tees, and a short game area that includes a two-tiered green and bunker.
