Opened for play in 1998, the course at The Springs Resort & Golf Club occupies a 130-acre parkland property on the east bank of the River Thames, between Wallingford and Moulsford.
Brian Huggett fashioned the layout originally then new owners acquired the course in 2017, bringing in architect Tim Lobb to work with Huggett on a renovation project to upgrade the bunkers and lakes.
Designed as two returning nines, the course extends to 6,500 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 72, with holes 12 to 16 set on the other side of The Ridgeway national trail which runs parallel to the river.
Holes of note on the front nine at The Springs include the long, slightly right bending par four 4th (rated stroke index 2) and the par three 8th, with water to the right and sand to the left of the green.
On the back nine, the par five 15th (where the river runs along the right side of the fairway) is a tough hole, as is the very narrow par four finisher, with trees to negotiate on the right, left and middle of the fairway!

World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
