I’ve played Thorpeness on a number of occasions when I lived in Essex and my home club was closed due to being waterlogged in the winter. Along with nearby Aldeburgh, Thorpeness drains well and is consequently a great winter venue. It’s quite different in character to Aldeburgh in that it has more trees and the holes feel more isolated. The windmill and the amazing house in the sky has to be one of the most amazing sights in golf, I just wish I had my camera at hand for the approach to the 18th which is simply magical.
