Thurgoona

Thurgoona’s an outer suburb of Albury, which sits across the Murray River from its twin town in Victoria, Wodonga, creating a catchment area of around 100,000 potential golfers. The Rutherglen wine region lies only a half-hour drive away so it’s also possible for visiting players to play to the greens in the morning then taste the grapes in the afternoon, if they so choose.

Thurgoona Country Club Resort offers a championship-standard layout measuring 6,372 metres from the rear markers, featuring tree-lined Santa Ana couch fairways and bent grass greens. Holes are routed around a rather unique star-shaped property extending to 170 acres, with the clubhouse located close to a centrally positioned dammed section of Eight Mile Creek.

Feature holes include both the par threes on the front nine (the 177-metre 2nd and 169-metre 6th, where sand protects the front left side on either green); the 173-metre 16th (with water fronting the right side of the hole); and the 384-metre 18th, which brings the creek into play as it cuts across the fairway 60 metres in front of the home green.
