Torekov

You’ll find the course at Torekovs Golf Club at the end of the Bjäre peninsula, nine miles to the west of the charming old town of Båstad on Sweden’s west coast.

The golf club was formed in 1924 and a 9-hole course was fashioned the following year in the southern outskirts of Torekov. However, when the landowner wanted his ground back for farming a new 9-hole course was laid out in 1934 just north of Torekov. Golfers seemed content with this arrangement for about forty years before Nils Sköld extended the layout to a full 18 holes in 1974.

More land became available a decade later, enabling the course to be further modified and updated by Jan Sederholm.

The course occupies an exposed seaside location without any of the holes actually touching the coastline but there are links-like features such as pot bunkers to be found on many of the sandy soiled fairways as they wind their way past ditches, ponds, dry stone walls and holiday houses on the property.

Golfers will be hard pressed to find better holiday-style golf on any other course in this part of the country – just don’t expect the test to be too easy as the course’s exposure to wind will often bring its own problems.
