I played the course in June 2009 as part of our annual golf trip and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. This course is one of the best I have played in Portugal so far. What stands out is the beautiful landscape, characterised by the sea and the pine trees and the dunes. Also, the course design provides a real golfing challenge given the narrow fairways and well protected, small greens. I am not rating the course even higher for two reasons: First the maintenance of the greens could have been better. Second the course mostly forces you to pull off great shots, few holes where you can choose to be either aggressive or play defensively. One word on the location: It took us almost 2 hours door to door to get there from our Estoril hotel. However, this is mostly due to the need to take the ferry. We went there on a beautiful day and loved the boat ride but probably the overall trip duration is the reason why so few people make the way down to Troia. However, we will certainly be back!
