Tropicana (East)

The early-1990s real estate development at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort is built around a 27-hole golf complex designed by Graham Marsh. Situated next to the old city airport, golfers contend with aircraft approaching and taking off but things are a lot quieter since the new International Airport in Sepang became operational in 1998.

Occupying the site of an old rubber plantation, the massive 625-acre property features two golfing layouts, the 18-hole East course and the 9-hole West course, and there’s nine holes on each track floodlit to allow a full round to take place in the evening. With a drainage system capable of allowing play to resume less than 15 minutes after a tropical downpour, neither rain nor nightfall stops play here!

Notable holes include the opening par four and the par three 3rd, each of which features a series of water cascades, and the tough par four 5th, where water runs along the right side of the fairway. On the back nine, the best is kept until last at the par five finishing hole, which plays to a long, multi-tiered home green that’s protected in front by a deceptively deep grass swale.
