Trump National (Championship) - Washington
The two courses at Trump National Washington (Championship and River) are laid out on the floodplain of the Potomac River and both are 1990s layouts that came from the design stables of Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills.
Donald Trump acquired the property when the Lowes Island Club sold it in 2009 and a subsequent refurbishment of the facility led to the Junior PGA Championships being held here in 2013.
Fairways on the Championship course are routed on a flat landscape close to the river but they veer inland around the turn, through more undulating, wooded terrain and it’s on this stretch that the most engaging holes are situated.
Most memorable holes include the 550-yard 8th (which doglegs to the left around water), the 220-yard 10th (requiring a tee shot over a wandering creek) and the 560-yard 17th, a water-laden par five that leads to a crescent-shaped green.
Bernhard Langer made history here at Sirling in May 2017 when the German became the first golfer to win all five senior majors with victory at the Senior PGA Championship. The title also saw the two-time Masters champion equal Gary Player’s record of nine senior majors.
