Turner Hill
Centrepiece of a new millennium residential development, the course of The Golf Club at Turner Hill is a Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry ensemble that opened for play in 2004. Unusually, a round here concludes with a short par three that plays across water to a two-tier green.
In a layout that positively bristles with strong holes, standouts on the front nine include the 570-yard 2nd, a par five that dog legs slightly right from an elevated tee position across wetlands to a narrow green, the 437-yard 5th, a downhill par four with spectacular views of Willowdale State Forest, and the 520-yard 9th, where the split fairway offers options off the tee.
The inward half is configured in a somewhat unorthodox manner, beginning and ending with par three holes, each of which is protected by water to the front of the green. The smart play at both the 170-yard 10th and the 185-yard 18th is to bail out to the left of the target if the pin position looks a little too tough from the tee.
