Twentsche

Twentsche Golfclub was founded in 1926, making it one of the oldest in the country. In the late 1990s, Irish architect Tom Macauley designed the 18-hole layout that’s now in play today. The club inaugurated the Twente Cup for professionals in 1929 and this annual event has been played almost every year since then.

Today, the course measures 6,332 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72, with holes laid out as two returning loops of nine. Water comes into play at several holes, most notably in the form of a pond between the greens of the par three 3rd and par five 5th, along with another little lake that influences approach play to the 14th, 15th and 18th.

Highlight holes include the short par four 2nd; the right doglegging par four 9th (rated stroke index 2); the longest of the par fives at the 12th (turning 45 degrees right towards the target less than 100 metres from the green); and the shortest of the par threes at the 15th, where the green is surrounded by five intimidating circles of sand.

Frank Pont and Jurrian van der Vaart have carried out major renovation work at the club in recent years, renovating all the green surrounds, bunkers and tees.
