Two Rivers
The Governor’s Land at Two Rivers Country Club lies ten miles west of downtown Williamburg, where the Chickahominy River and James River meet, and its Tom Fazio-designed course has been renovated to feature bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways.
Costing a reputed $1.6 million, the 2013 upgrade project also included a complete re-build of the fairway and greenside bunkers, updated bridges and an expanded practice facility with seven target greens, a practice bunker and putting green.
The work was carried out by Kris Spence of Spence Golf Design, who reckoned the following amount of renovation material was used in the work: 7,000 tons of greens mix, 4,000 tons of gravel, 3,500 tons of soil and 1,800 tons of bunker sand.
Configured in an out and back fashion, the fairways head east from the clubhouse in a figure of eight routing around a residential development, before returning for a spectacular three-hole finish along one thousand yards of river frontage.
