Established in 2012, the entrepreneur real estate group Euromayor (actual sponsor of Angel Cabrera) developed the first Nicklaus venture in the central province of Cordoba.
Valle del Golf is a magnificent and competitive modern course that’s laid out over a naturally rolling piece of land in the middle of the Cordoba Sierras. It’s a really fun course to play, offering very challenging shots thanks to the uneven terrain and the significant altitude differences.
Holes of note are 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 16 on this modern design. Big greens and risky bunkers on landing areas may frighten you at first glance from the tee boxes.Above article adapted with kind permission from www.wegolfargentina.com
I played this course for the first time back in 2012 and then a several number of times. It has a "deja vu" feeling with Pilará in Buenos Aires: same style in bunkering, same concept in greens design and holes but a different piece of land in a valley in between the smooth hills of this area.
The Club was created together with a Real Estate Project and it has struggled since then and so the course, which was supposed to be 27 holes but it was cut to 18 and in some periods of the last years course maintenance has gone to basic so it became not the best mantained one as they had expected.
Said this, it is now back on track and a fun course, close to El Potrerillo, Alta Gracia, Cordoba GC and Estancia La Paz to make a 1 full week of very good golf.
Well, when you go and see a comedian live, you want to hear new jokes, not the ones you have heard already right? But when you go and see the rolling Stones the last thing you want is their new album, you want the old stuff, Right? Golf designers like Jack have to be in between.
Nicklaus Courses are a product that sit between the two. So familiar yet subtly different every time. Where ever you are on the five continents. All that varies is the ground underneath them. Here the ground is good enough but never spectacular. Although the views are a long way from Kansas Dorothy, or Surrey. They are spectacular. This is a very good reliable product I for one think is very solid. You know what you are going to get from tee to green, it’s kind of new, but it feels like the last album too. It is familiar, accommodating and reassuring. I was not disappointed here. I actually loved it. BOOM!
Some people like to be indie. But this is mainstream, high quality, super fun Golf.
Some of you will like the other three of the big four in Cordoba but all of you will like this one. You have all of the usual ingredients for a Nicklaus course. World class practice facilities, 7400 yards at 600m above sea level. Bunkering that is a little, well, OTT, camp, violent on the eye. The positioning is good so I love it...
Jack wants you to have fun, be challenged and enjoy every hole. I did. I just hope they don’t dig up Jacks best new Gag, an 18th hole green that slopes subtly enough from back to front to almost render it false. They think it is a mistake. I think it is genius. I like it. You have plenty of flag options at the front guys. 20 plus yards of it.
Stop for a bite to eat in the clubhouse. Unbelievable well-seasoned Steaks and a great cellar. Fillet steak and a bottle of world class Malbec? £12. World class. Think Lutyens, Butcher And grill, Hawksmoor, gaucho, CAU etc…
Quite honestly there is no better time to visit Argentina. Your £ or $ goes a long way here. it will not always be that way. So be quick. Every course I have been to has been so friendly and hospitable. Loved it. only another 9 days to go.... Off to the Andes tomorrow....
