Valley (South)

Valley Golf & Country Club was founded in 1958 and the South course opened for play in 1961, following a James Herd Scott design. Host to the Philippine Open, most recently in 2010, the club added the shorter 18-hole North in 1989.

Today, the tree-lined South course measures 6,988 yards from the tips, playing to a par of 72, with holes arranged as two returning nines. Water comes into the reckoning at several holes, most memorably on the back nine at the tough par four 16th and only slightly less difficult par five 17th, both of which dogleg right around a couple of interconnected small lakes.

Highlight holes include the very narrow long par four 2nd (with a large bunker protecting the front right of the green) and the par five 5th, bending right from tee to green with a pond to the right of the fairway and another pond placed directly in front of the green.

On the back nine, the tee shot at the par four 12th must carry a wide ditch in front of the green, before demanding parallel par fours are played in opposite directions at the 14th and 15th. Shortly after, the round concludes with a tee shot over another small pond to a heavily sand-protected home green at the 211-yard 18th.
