Van Tri

Hà Nội, Vietnam

Designed by Peter Rousseau, the course at Van Tri Golf Club opened for play in 2007. It’s completely surrounded by water so, unsurprisingly, lakes and streams come into play at more than half the holes on the card.

Van Tri

Set within a private residential development that lies a 30-minute drive from downtown Hanoi, the course at Van Tri is a Peter Rousseau design that debuted in 2007. Fairways have been laid out on the south side of the Van Tri Dam so it’s perhaps not surprising to learn that sizeable water hazards come into play at more than half the holes on the card.

Playing corridors are also tree-lined and sand-protected with an array of carefully placed fairway and greenside bunkers, so good course management skills are essential when playing here.

The double doglegged 603-yard 17th is the signature hole. The tee shot over a lake is straightforward, as is the second shot, which has to avoid a large bunker on either side of the fairway. The third shot is all-important, as it must carry a meandering creek that crosses twice in front of the green.
