Ever since it first opened its door to golfers in 1974, Vasatorps Golfklubb has been one of the big hitters in Swedish tournament golf. The original course hosted three editions of the Scandinavian Enterprise Open, with Seve Ballesteros, Sandy Lyle and Greg Norman all winning the event between 1978 and 1980.
The golfing component at Vasatorp has developed over the years, with the club unveiling its 18-hole TC course in 2008, followed five years later by the renovated Classic course (formerly called Gamla Banan), which re-opened after a two-year upgrade process in time to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary.
All the fairways were refurbished and the putting surfaces rebuilt during the course revamp and a number of greens and bunkers were also relocated to ensure the layout would be fit for purpose in the modern era.
Water hazards feature at half the holes, most significantly on the front nine at the left doglegged par five 5th, where a pond sits to the left of the green. On the inward half, a creek runs along the fairway of the 12th hole before crossing in front of the green – unsurprisingly, these two treacherous holes are rated stroke index 1 and 2 on the scorecard.
