Vilamoura Golf (Millennium)

There are two courses: the Old And Victoria courses are advertised as Vilamoura's best two layouts over the Millennium, Pinhal and Laguna because they are an inch ahead of the others however that's not to suggest that the last three aren't excellent courses on their own.

The Millennium was inaugurated, as its name suggests in 2000. Half of the holes on this course were once part of the previous 27 hole Laguna Course (built in the year 1990) and the remaining nine holes were added in order to create an 18-hole layout. The resurfacing of the old holes as well as design of the new outer half was managed by Martin Hawtree, the renowned course architect.

The most popular hole in the first nine holes is the 165-yard par-3, 6th hole in which the green is guarded by water to the left side and a huge bunker to the right. The most difficult hole of the nine back is 425-yard par four 16th, which requires the tee shot be played uphill until the fairway, which has bunkers on each side from the area where you land. The approach shot has to be a little twitchy with sand on either side of the putting surface prior to being drilled out.
