Viniterra
Membership at the Club at Viniterra has a range of tee options to choose from...even more so than the average forward-thinking club. Of the four par threes at this Rees Jones / Greg Muirhead collaboration, the fewest number of tee boxes come at No. 12, which has a mere seven. No. 16 features 10, ranging from 164 yards to 84 in total distance; it’s possible that the strategy is to give the maintenance staff as much breathing room as the players!
If “breathing room” isn’t your thing, Viniterra can be lengthened to a staggering distance...nearly 7,800 yards from the unofficial back tees (the less masochistic scratch golfer can try the “official” backs tees, just 7,450 yards, instead). The length offered on some of these holes, and the fact that you can’t see any other holes during a majority of your round, speaks to the amount of property set aside for this very private (yet open to the public) playing experience.
If you choose to tackle a tee box that beats up your handicap, you can kick back at the clubhouse and enjoy a drink from the area’s famous wineries, which the club’s title is a tip-of-the-cap to.
