Virginia (Championship)

Formed in 1928 with a 9-hole course, Virginia Golf Club had eighteen holes in play by 1933. An additional nine holes have since been added so the modern day set up comprises the 18-hole Championship course and the 9-hole Heritage layout.

Set out within a 160-acre site to the north of Brisbane, with Downfall Creek running through the property, the main course at Virginia plays to a par of 71 and holes are arranged as two returning nines.

Highlight holes include the first of the par threes at the 168-metre 3rd (with a big ridge running through the centre of the green); the difficult par four 6th (the longest two-shotter on the card); and the 184-metre 9th (described as “a brutal par three” by the club).

The par five 13th isn’t the longest at 444 metres but the green is guarded by water to the left and sand to the right, making it a tough birdie proposition. Still, avoid the fairway trap on the left veering par four 18th and you might well be able to mark a “4” on the scorecard as you end your round.
