Review for Waipu

Reviewer Score:

If you are travelling between Auckland and the Bay of islands make sure you plan a stop at one of New Zealand golf's hidden treasures. The Waipu Golf Club. Situated on the coast of beautiful Bream Bay and immediately adjacent to State Highway 1, this wonderful layout, in keeping with Waipu's Nova Scotian heritage, is a natural links course and has arguably some of the best views of any golf course around the world. Better still the greens are amongst the best you will find anywhere and the course itself will provide a wonderful natural links experience especially if the breeze decides to freshen. The fairways are natural grasses and the course and greens being sand based means it is generally unaffected by rain. In fact even after a deluge the course can be in play 30minutes later. So here’s the travel plan. Leave Auckland or the Bay of Islands at 8.00am.Tee off at Waipu at 10.00am.Lunch on the deck at 1.30-2pm whilst enjoying the spectacular views from the clubhouse. Leave the course at 3-3.30 and you're in Auckland or the Bay of islands for "fivesys" Greg Shanaghan - Auckland
