Review for Wentworth (West)

Reviewer Score:

I've just played the course for the first time in 18 months and wow, what a change. The layout remains immaculate, the bunkers have settled down (in fact they are raked in such a way that allows the ball to settle in a "forgiving" spot), the green complexes have matured and the greens are now fair, true and consistent. It's easy to criticise a course for it's shortcomings and I am sure that the historical reviews are justified; however I would suggest you now go back and give it another go; things have changed. My only concern is the difficulty of the course, it's too tough for a double digit handicapper, even from the yellow tees. There is no forgiveness, miss a fairway and it's at least a bogey, miss a green and a double is a potential. As a low handicapper I loved it for the pure test of shot-making (fades, draws, punch shots, pitches, bunker play, etc.) but be warned if you're not on your game you will walk off the course and need a drink... quickly...
