Cornwall was a gap in my golfing CV, so I visited in April during incredibly warm weather to play all the highly rated seaside courses and West Cornwall was a stand out surprise. It’s not as good as St Enodoc or Trevose but overall it’s an engaging little course that put a smile on my face all the way round. There are only two par fives on the card and both of these appear on the back half (and they’re short birdie opportunities), scoring well is a real possibility but there’s always some wind here which makes golfing interesting. I can’t think of a better word than quirky to describe this course, but that’s not a negative. The variation from hole to hole makes for entertainment and fun. There’s the odd blind shot here and there but this does not impede playability in any way. Overall I’d have Lelant ahead of Perranporth (just) and well ahead of Mullion. West Cornwall is unforgettable course and one that I’ll play on any future trip to Cornwall.
