West Surrey Golf Club

I do not have a better example of how spoiled for golf I am living in Surrey than this.

The bunker has a long and illustrious history as a golf course hazard, always as a hazard to be avoided.

West Surrey is a parkland oasis amidst the myriad of Surrey's heathland golf courses.

Lovely Old Herbert Fowler course , the first 4-5 holes relatively straightforward, then from 6 inwards got tighter and more undulating , in fantastic condition, this is more a parkland course than heathland , due to the turf.

Parachute West Surrey ten miles to the west and it would comfortably sit in the Hampshire Best in County Top 10.

I often see the cliched statement that ‘If course X was located in Surrey, then it would be rated much higher’.

Architect Ken Moodie was appointed to upgrade the West Surrey course in 2016 and he’s made an impressive start, completing the first phase of a 5-year programme with the renovation of bunkers on four of the holes.

First visit in over 20 years and I genuinely didn’t remember the course being this good.
