West Waterford
The parkland course at West Waterford Golf & Country Club was constructed in 1993 on one hundred and fifty acres of former farmland in south east Ireland on the banks of the River Brickey. Designed by the father of golf architecture in Ireland, West Waterford is the 100th design from the legendary Eddie Hackett. The Comeragh and Knockmealdown Moutains lie to the north and the east and the Drum Hills are to the south so it is easy to understand why the terrain can best be described as rolling.
The holes are routed in two loops of nine, with each ending close to the clubhouse. The front nine are laid out on a large plateau with a meandering stream that comes into play on the 3rd and 4th holes. The Brockey River runs to the south of the property and it has to be avoided between the 12th and 16th holes. West Waterford Golf and Country Club maintain the course to a high standard with tees, fairways and greens kept in good condition all year round.
It is good to see the three golf clubs in close proximity to Dungarvan – Gold Coast, Dungarvan and West Waterford – working with each other rather than competing against each other. They have formed the Dungarvan Golf Triangle and visitors can play all three courses for a concessionary green fee, the equivalent of playing three for the price of two. The clubs also host an annual team event in June over the three courses which has the grand title of the Dungarvan Golf International.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
