White Columns
There can be no doubt that the stately clubhouse plays a significant role in both the identity and the branding at White Columns Country Club, however members are also pleased to host a Tom Fazio-designed golf course at this property north of Atlanta.
The architect routes this 7,050-yard championship route through large strands of Georgia pines, separating players from the distraction of other players. More pleasing to the average golfer is that homes will also be a rare sight across one’s round at White Columns; after all, the only building they’re really interested in talking about is the title one.
The terrain provides much of the challenge, with fairways rolling around the region’s typically hilly plot. A number of water hazards appear on the course’s most intimidating holes. No. 15 is a hop-and-a-skip over a pond; if the trees at the tee box weren’t present, some tigers may consider going for the green right out of the gate. The closing hole is a lengthy par four where the final 125 yards will be like walking a tightrope...either end up on the green or fall off the thin strip of fairway into the rightward pond.
