The Wild Dunes Resort offers a couple of 18-hole Fazio courses for public play. It’s generally accepted that the Links (six years older than the Harbor layout) is the better of the two tracks at this popular 36-hole complex.
The Links course hosted the U.S. Senior Amateur in 1985, when Lewis Oehmig became the oldest USGA Champion in history at the age of 69. That victory was his third U.S. Senior Amateur title, having previously won in 1972 and 1976, as well as finishing runner-up three times during the 1970s.
Unfortunately, the course has changed quite a bit since then, due mainly to long-term coastal erosion which has notably resulted in the closing short par five 18th becoming a 188-yard par three finisher. Greens, cart paths and the irrigation system were all renovated during the summer of 2015.
