Willow Brook

Willow Brook Country Club’s golf history began with a nine-hole layout from an architect whose name is now lost to time, and Ralph Plummer came to the property following World War II to add nine more holes. The course soon hosted the Texas State Amateur following the update.

More time rolled on, and Tripp Davis — a native Texan — provided a masterplan for converting an unused fairway area into a four-hole short course intended for boosting children’s participation. Impressed by the result, the membership hired Davis to create and execute a masterplan for the full golf course.

The process included shaking up a rather repetitive stretch on the back nine, combining two par fours of similar yardage into one larger par five. Where that hole was lengthened, Davis worked to shorten the par four eighth, making it a drivable temptation, but also widening the fairway to create more options for players.
